Volunteer seeks to be a bright spot in the lives of children/families

Hoping to do her part and give back to her larger community, Kathleen Battcher decided to pursue becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate in 2021. "The notion of being a voice, as well as a support system for kids that are in need, was inspiring to me," shared Battcher. "I love it when I come for a visit and I am greeted with smiles and sometimes hugs! Knowing that I can be a bright spot in their lives is so rewarding."

One of her favorite memories was being invited by a CASA family to attend an elementary school art show. "One of the children's artwork was chosen to be showcased that evening. I appreciated walking around with the family while the kids introduced me to some of their school friends. We finished off the evening by going out for ice cream."

Battcher continues to serve as a CASA because she recognizes how important the work is. "Letting kids know that they matter and are cared for is important. It is equally important to provide them with an additional support system and encourage them to live their best lives," she added.

Over 200 children in CASA's 7-county service area are currently waiting for a CASA like Kathleen Battcher to support them while they go through a complicated time in their young lives. Could you be a bright spot in the life of a child? Learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer here.
