Become a CASA Volunteer

When you become a CASA volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocate), you give a powerful voice to a child who has experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma. CASA volunteers are ordinary people—teachers, parents, retirees, and professionals—who make an extraordinary difference by standing up for children in Family Court and the child welfare system. After completing specialized training, volunteers are matched with a child or sibling group and supported by CASA staff every step of the way.

Serving as a CASA volunteer means being a consistent, caring adult in a child’s life—someone who listens, advocates for their needs, and ensures they don’t fall through the cracks. Your advocacy helps children find safety, stability, and a permanent home where they can thrive. Volunteers typically spend 4–12 hours a month visiting children, attending meetings or court hearings, and submitting reports to help judges make informed decisions.

There are more than 2,000 children in Family Court each year across Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties, and many still need someone to speak up for them. With your help, CASA of the River Region can ensure that every child has the chance to be heard, valued, and given hope for a brighter future. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

CASA Child Advocate

Every day people from every background (21+ years old)

Trained by CASA to recognize & understand the educational, social-emotional, and physical needs of children with trauma.

Paired with one case (one child/sibling group) to be a friend, mentor and advocate.

Become a Friend of CASA

Board/Committee Membership: Serve on CASA's Board of Directors and/or committees, such as Development (marketing/fundraising) and Outreach (community engagement).

Office Help: Assist on mailings, seasonal events (back-to-school drive, holiday sponsorship), or events.

Special Programs for Children: CASA holds special events throughout the year for children, specifically the Back to School Drive and the Holiday Sponsorship. CASA needs assistance with donation drives, collections and organization.

Be ready to provide a powerful voice for children in just 2½ weeks!

Complete CASA training through two in-person sessions, three scheduled online sessions, and self-paced study. For even greater flexibility, a fully self-guided option may also be available. Training has never been more accessible, making it easier than ever for anyone with the heart to advocate to gain the skills needed to make a lasting difference.
