Each April, communities across the country come together to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, strengthen families, and reaffirm our shared responsibility to protect children.
At CASA of the River Region, that commitment was on full display this year through a series of pinwheel plantings across our service area. These vibrant displays serve as both a symbol and a promise: every child deserves a safe, joyful, and supported childhood.
Why Pinwheels?
The blue pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention. It represents hope,

resilience, and the bright future every child deserves. Across Kentucky and beyond, pinwheels appear each spring as part of the “Pinwheels for Prevention” campaign, reminding us that prevention is possible when communities come together. For CASA, each pinwheel represents a child. It reflects both the children we serve and the many more who are still waiting for a voice.

A Community Effort
This year’s plantings brought together community partners, volunteers, and supporters who share a commitment to ensuring that children in the family court system are not overlooked.
From courthouse lawns to community spaces, these displays sparked conversations, encouraged reflection, and helped shine a light on the realities many children face. Just as importantly, they highlighted the power of community involvement in creating change.
Growing Awareness and Impact
Local media coverage helped amplify the message even further. We are grateful for the thoughtful coverage highlighting these events and the importance of child abuse prevention:

These stories reinforce a simple but powerful message: every child deserves a safe and stable future.
Turning Awareness into Action

While April brings awareness, the need for advocacy continues year-round. CASA volunteers provide consistent, caring support for children who have experienced abuse and neglect, ensuring their voices are heard and their best interests are represented.
If you feel inspired to make a difference, there are two meaningful ways to get involved:

Make a gift to support our mission: www.casarr.org/donate-now
Together, we can ensure that more children have a voice, a champion, and the opportunity for a brighter future.
