ADVOCATE RESOURCES

In-Service Training

To help volunteers learn more about advocating effectively for children, CASA offers monthly in-service trainings. Volunteers must complete 12 hours of in-service training per year. In addition to CASA In-Service workshops, volunteers may attend a conference, watch a webinar, or read and discuss a book.  Assistance with the cost of continuing education activities are available. See your Supervisor for more information. RSVP to your supervisor for any of these sessions.

BROKEN PLACES poses the complex question of why some children are severely damaged by early adversity while others are able to thrive. To help answer this question, we dug into 40 years of our film archives to update a few of the stories of children growing up in difficult circumstances that we filmed decades ago. It turns out that some of these children were so scarred by abuse and neglect that they are now in mental institutions, correctional facilities, or drug rehabilitation centers.

SPOTLIGHT

Meet CASA Volunteer,

Shawn Eve

"I was born and raised in Northern California, but moved to Kentucky when I met and married my husband 39 years ago. We have four children, keep chickens and bees, and own a small business out in Crestwood.

I heard about CASA from a friend, and was immediately drawn to its mission statement, especially the idea that every child deserves the right to thrive. In my life, I have come to know that while none of us can walk someone else’s path for them, we can walk WITH them.

Sometimes all someone needs is a hand to hold. CASA has given me the opportunity to offer my love, encouragement, and support to a struggling child and family.

In spite of the fact that this journey has not been without its ups and downs, it has been inspiring to see the efforts being made to put an incredibly difficult childhood behind, and make those changes necessary to move forward in a more productive way.

It has been a privilege to become friends with this family, and I have nothing but admiration at how far they have come. They have every reason to feel hopeful and optimistic about their future together.

I feel very fortunate to be a part of this important and worthwhile organization."
